A-Class Surface Design Engineer

TMC USA SE is seeking a highly skilled A-Class Surface Design Engineer with expertise in Alias software to join the team. As an A-Class Surface Design Engineer, you will be responsible for creating and refining high-quality exterior and interior surface designs for automotive vehicles using Alias software. Your designs will play a crucial role in shaping the visual aesthetics and overall appearance of our automotive products.

| Your challenges ?

• Utilize Alias software to develop high-quality A-Class surfaces for automotive exterior and interior components, including body panels, bumpers, fenders, grilles, interior trims, and other visual elements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, product managers, and studio designers, to understand design requirements and translate them into visually appealing and manufacturable surface designs.
• Create 3D surface models, develop concept sketches, and perform surface modifications and refinements based on design feedback and technical requirements.
• Work closely with Class-A surfacing team to ensure smooth transitions and continuity between different surface areas, achieving the desired level of quality and fit and finish.
• Conduct feasibility studies and analysis to ensure that the surface designs meet engineering and manufacturing constraints, including manufacturability, cost targets, and quality standards.
• Collaborate with other design engineers and suppliers to optimize the surface design for aerodynamics, structural integrity, and overall vehicle performance.
• Generate detailed engineering specifications, surface data, and technical documentation required for prototyping, tooling, and production.
• Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in automotive design, surfacing, and visualization techniques.

| What do we expect from you ?

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, Transportation Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience of 3+ years as an A-Class Surface Design Engineer in the automotive industry.
• Proficiency in Alias software, with hands-on experience in creating high-quality surface models and Class-A surfaces for automotive components.
• Strong understanding of automotive design principles, aesthetics, and surface development processes.
• Solid knowledge of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and design feasibility considerations.
• Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams, including design studios, engineering teams, and suppliers.
• Strong artistic and visual sense, with the ability to create visually appealing designs and maintain design intent through surface development.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with precision to meet project deadlines.
• Effective communication and presentation skills to articulate design concepts and ideas to stakeholders.
• Familiarity with other design software, such as Catia, Creo, or SolidWorks, is a plus.
